How to set up IPTV on Amazon Fire TV Stick

The Fire TV Stick is the most popular way to watch DrexTV, and for good reason: it costs under $50, plugs into any HDMI port, and its remote is designed for exactly this kind of navigation. The one wrinkle is that Amazon does not carry general-purpose IPTV players in its own store, so you sideload the player using Amazon's officially sanctioned Downloader app. That is a supported Fire OS workflow, not a jailbreak, and nothing about it voids your warranty.

Quick answer

How do I set up IPTV on Amazon Firestick?

To set up DrexTV on a Firestick, enable Apps from Unknown Sources in Developer Options, install the Downloader app from the Amazon Appstore, use it to download the IPTV Smarters Pro APK, then log in with the Xtream Codes API username, password and server URL from your DrexTV activation email. The whole process takes about five minutes.

5 steps

Setting up DrexTV on Amazon Firestick

Follow these in order. Menu paths are given exactly as they appear on the device, and the whole sequence takes about 5 minutes.

  1. Step 1: Enable Apps from Unknown Sources

From the Fire TV home screen, scroll right to the gear icon and open Settings. Go to My Fire TV, then Developer Options, then switch Apps from Unknown Sources to ON. Accept the warning dialog that appears — it is Amazon's standard sideloading notice.

On Fire OS 7 and later, Developer Options is hidden until you unlock it. If you cannot see the menu, go to Settings, My Fire TV, About, highlight your device name and click it seven times. A message confirms that developer options are now available, and the menu appears one level up.

  2. Step 2: Install the Downloader app

Return to the home screen and open the magnifying-glass search at the top left. Type “Downloader” and select the orange app by AFTVnews from the results. Choose Get or Download, and wait for it to install.

Downloader is listed in Amazon's own Appstore, so this is a normal app install. Open it once installation finishes and allow the storage permission it asks for.

  3. Step 3: Download the IPTV player

In Downloader's Home tab, click the URL field and type the official player address:

    https://www.iptvsmarters.com

Press Go. The site loads, and you select the Android APK download. When the file finishes downloading, Fire OS shows an install prompt — choose Install, then Done.

Back in Downloader you will be offered the option to delete the APK file. Choose Delete; the app is installed and the installer file is no longer needed. This frees space, which matters on a 8 GB Fire TV Stick Lite.

  4. Step 4: Log in with your DrexTV credentials

Open IPTV Smarters Pro from your app list. Accept the terms of use, then choose Login with Xtream Codes API rather than the M3U option — Xtream Codes gives you the full programme guide, catch-up and on-demand sections, whereas a plain M3U playlist gives you live channels only.

Fill in the three fields exactly as they appear in your DrexTV activation email: any label you like for Any Name, then your Username, Password and Server URL. Credentials are case-sensitive, so use the copy-and-paste option in Downloader's browser if you would rather not type them on a remote.

Select Add User. The app authenticates, downloads the channel list and programme guide, and drops you on the main menu. On a first login this takes 10 to 30 seconds because it is pulling 24,000 channels and a seven-day guide.

  5. Step 5: Pin your favourites and start watching

Open Live TV and you will see the category list. Highlight any channel and hold the centre select button to add it to Favourites — this is worth doing for your ten or fifteen regular channels, because it turns a 24,000-channel list into a short, usable one.

In Settings inside the player, set Stream Format to the default and leave hardware decoding enabled. If you have a 4K Fire TV Stick, also set the Fire TV display output to 4K 60Hz under Settings, Display and Sounds, Display, so 4K feeds are not downscaled.

Worth knowing

Amazon Firestick tips that make a real difference

These are the things we tell subscribers after setup, and they account for most of the gap between a service that feels adequate and one that feels premium.

Use Ethernet if you can

The Fire TV Stick supports a wired connection through an official Amazon Ethernet adapter, which plugs into the micro-USB power port. On a 4K feed, a wired link removes the single most common source of mid-stream buffering. If Wi-Fi is your only option, use the 5 GHz band rather than 2.4 GHz.

Clear the cache monthly

Fire OS is aggressive about caching and the Fire TV Stick has limited storage. Once a month, go to Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, select your player, and choose Clear Cache. This is not Clear Data — that would delete your login. Clearing cache resolves most slow-guide complaints.

Restart weekly, not just when it breaks

Holding Select and Play together for five seconds restarts the Fire TV Stick. Doing this once a week keeps memory free, which materially improves channel-change speed on the 3rd-generation and Lite models with 1 GB of RAM.

The 4K Max handles 4K best

All current Fire TV Stick models will play a DrexTV stream, but the 4K Max has the fastest processor and Wi-Fi 6E support. If you are buying a device specifically for high-bitrate 4K sport, it is the one to get.

If something goes wrong

The five most common Amazon Firestick problems

Ordered by how often we actually see them, with the fix rather than a generic suggestion to restart.

ProblemHow to fix it
Install button greyed out or blockedApps from Unknown Sources is still off. Go back to Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options and confirm the toggle is ON. On some builds the setting sits under a per-app permission list instead — in that case find Downloader in the list and enable it there.
Downloader says the URL is invalidFire OS keyboards insert a space or capitalise the first letter. Retype the address in lower case with no spaces, and include the https:// prefix.
Login fails with invalid credentialsCredentials are case-sensitive and the server URL must include the port number exactly as sent. The most common cause is a trailing space picked up from a copy-paste. Delete the profile and re-enter it by hand.
Channels buffer only on the FirestickIf other devices on the same connection play fine, the Fire TV Stick's Wi-Fi is the bottleneck. Switch to 5 GHz, move the stick onto an HDMI extender so it is not buried behind the television chassis, or add the Ethernet adapter.
Audio plays but the picture is blackThis is a hardware-decoder mismatch. Inside the player, open Settings and switch the decoder from Hardware to Software for that channel. It costs a little CPU but resolves the codec conflict.

Device questions

Amazon Firestick questions, answered

Does installing an IPTV player void my Firestick warranty?

No. Enabling Apps from Unknown Sources is a documented Fire OS setting and sideloading through Downloader uses Amazon's own listed app. You are not rooting or jailbreaking the device, and a factory reset returns it to stock at any time.

Which Firestick models work with DrexTV?

All of them. That includes the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, Fire TV Stick 4K, 3rd-generation Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick Lite, both Fire TV Cube generations and Amazon's built-in Fire TV televisions. For high-bitrate 4K sport the 4K Max performs best.

Should I use Xtream Codes or an M3U URL?

Xtream Codes, in almost every case. It gives you the seven-day programme guide, catch-up TV and the on-demand library, and it is far easier to type on a remote because it is a short username and password rather than a long link. M3U is only worth using in a player that does not support Xtream Codes.

How long does Firestick setup actually take?

About five minutes from a stock device, and most of that is waiting for two downloads. Once the player is installed, adding your DrexTV credentials takes under a minute.

Can I use one DrexTV account on a Firestick and a phone at once?

Installed on both, yes — playing on both at the same moment needs a second connection. Every DrexTV plan includes one simultaneous stream. You can install the app on as many devices as you like — a stick in the living room, a phone on the commute, a laptop in a hotel — because the limit is on concurrent streams, not installations. If you need two screens playing at once, an extra connection is $4.99 a month on any plan, with no change of term and no device registration step.
